Roland Mayer-Sams

Roland Mayer-Sams serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Music Education at Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2017, while concurrently holding the position of head of the folk music department at the Upper Austrian State Music School since 2012, where he has taught since 2005.

His educational background includes specialized studies in diatonic harmonica and chromatic dulcimer at Mozarteum University Salzburg, completed in 2009.

His research and pedagogical focus centers on folk music preservation, particularly Austrian and Bavarian traditions, with expertise in diatonic harmonica and chromatic dulcimer performance. His work emphasizes intergenerational transmission of folk traditions through community-based education and artistic practice.

Artistically, he maintains an active performance career as a soloist and ensemble member with Tennriedlmusi and Hochwies Klarinettenmusi, contributing to contemporary folk music landscapes across Austria, Bavaria, and South Tyrol through workshops and public engagements.
