معرفی
Rohit Medwal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His research focuses on nanomagnetism, spin transport, and high-frequency spin dynamics in spin devices, with particular expertise in terahertz spintronics and magnonics. He maintains active collaborations with international research institutions and has established a productive experimental laboratory at IITK.
Dr. Medwal completed his PhD in 2014 and Master's degree in 2007 from the Department of Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Delhi, following undergraduate studies at Hindu College, University of Delhi (2005). His academic journey includes research positions at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Kyushu Institute of Technology (Japan), and University of Puerto Rico (USA) before joining IIT Kanpur.
His research program investigates fundamental spin phenomena in magnetic nanostructures with applications in next-generation spintronic devices. Dr. Medwal's work bridges materials science, condensed matter physics, and electrical engineering, focusing on how spin currents behave at terahertz frequencies and how magnetic properties can be engineered at the nanoscale. His experimental approach combines thin film deposition, advanced magnetic characterization, and high-frequency measurement techniques to probe spin dynamics in novel materials systems.
Analysis of Dr. Medwal's publication record reveals a progressive research trajectory from fundamental magnetic properties of nanoparticles toward complex spin transport phenomena in multilayer structures. His recent work demonstrates particular expertise in yttrium iron garnet thin films, spin Hall effects in heavy metals, and terahertz spin dynamics - areas critical for developing faster, more efficient spin-based electronic devices. The interdisciplinary nature of his research spans condensed matter physics, materials engineering, and nanoelectronics.
Dr. Medwal has received multiple research awards including Gold medals at the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (2020, 2022), Excellence in Research award from NIE/NTU Singapore (2022), and multiple gold awards from the Nanyang Research Program (2018-2019). He was also honored with the Anil K Bharti Bhatnagar Award for best PhD thesis from the Indian Physics Associations (2013).
His research has been supported through various national and international funding mechanisms, resulting in productive collaborations across Singapore, Japan, and the United States. Dr. Medwal has mentored students who have achieved recognition at science fairs and has contributed to developing research infrastructure at IIT Kanpur for advanced magnetic materials characterization.
At IIT Kanpur, Dr. Medwal leads an experimental research group focused on spintronics and nanomagnetism, equipped with facilities for thin film deposition, magnetic characterization, and high-frequency spin dynamics measurements. His laboratory maintains strong connections with international partners including Nanyang Technological University and continues to advance research in magnetic materials for next-generation electronic applications.
