Rohit Marawar, MD, FAES is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Wayne State University School of Medicine and serves as Director of the Adult Epilepsy Fellowship Program. He is a board-certified epilepsy expert with additional certification in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology.
Dr. Marawar received his medical degree from Government Medical College & Hospital in Nagpur, India. He completed his neurology residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, followed by a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining Wayne State University in 2016, he worked in private practice for three years.
His primary research interests focus on epilepsy in older adults and the intersection of epilepsy and dementia. He directs the weekly Older Adult Multidisciplinary Epilepsy clinic at Detroit Medical Center, which provides comprehensive and personalized epilepsy care to the underserved elderly population. His scholarly work shows a clear trajectory toward geriatric epilepsy, with numerous publications examining status epilepticus in elderly patients, seizure occurrence in dementia conditions, and treatment considerations for aging populations with epilepsy.
Dr. Marawar has published extensively in epilepsy research, with particular emphasis on geriatric epilepsy, status epilepticus, and the relationship between epilepsy and neurodegenerative conditions. His 23 PubMed-indexed publications since 2012 demonstrate growing expertise in his specialty areas, with increasing publication frequency in recent years.

As an educator, Dr. Marawar teaches PYC7150 - Fundamentals of Neuropsychiatric Disorders at Wayne State University. He also directs the Adult Epilepsy Fellowship Program, training the next generation of epilepsy specialists. His clinical work centers on providing specialized care for older adults with epilepsy through the multidisciplinary clinic he directs at Detroit Medical Center.
Dr. Marawar's innovative work extends internationally, as evidenced by his publication 'Seizure Safari: Bridging the Treatment Gap in Rural Tanzania and Shaking Up Epilepsy Care,' which demonstrates his commitment to improving epilepsy care in resource-limited settings globally.
