Roger Yelle is a Professor at the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory (LPL). With a career spanning decades, his research focuses on planetary atmospheres across our solar system and exoplanets, particularly studying composition, dynamics, and escape processes. He has been associated with LPL since 2001.
- Education: Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1984)
His work integrates spacecraft data analysis and theoretical modeling, with key projects including Cassini's Ion Neutral Mass Spectrometer Team and the MAVEN mission to Mars. Recent publications highlight his contributions to understanding hydrogen escape on Mars, seasonal atmospheric variations on Saturn, and isotopic ratios in Venus' atmosphere.
Professor Yelle has advised multiple Ph.D. students including Sarah Horst, Jun Cui, and Yiping Wang. His current involvement spans missions like MAVEN and Venus Express, while previous roles included work on Cassini, Voyager, and Deep Space 1.
