Dr. Roger W. Meier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at The University of Memphis, where he has served since 1995. His career spans academia and industry, including 12 years as a Research Civil Engineer at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station.
- Ph.D., Georgia Institute of Technology (1995)
- M.Sc., University of Colorado at Boulder (1983)
- B.S., Virginia Tech (1979)
Dr. Meier’s research focuses on soil mechanics, pavement mechanics, highway materials, and numerical methods, with specialization in collapsible soils, unsaturated soil mechanics, and soft computing techniques. His work integrates artificial neural networks into pavement design and geotechnical analysis.
His publications from 2010 to 1995 emphasize pavement durability, environmental impacts, and AI-driven modeling for material properties. These studies highlight trends in flexible pavement analysis, seasonal variations, and non-destructive testing innovations.
Scientific awards include multiple ASCE Student Chapter Faculty of the Year titles, Herff College of Engineering teaching and research honors, and U.S. Army commendations. He serves on ASCE and ASTM committees and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.
