Roger Lirely

Dr. Roger Lirely is a Professor of Accounting and Department Chair of Accounting, Finance, and Business Law at The University of Texas at Tyler since 2010. Previously, he served as Department Head of Accounting, Finance, and Economics at Western Carolina University and chaired Assurance of Learning committees for their College of Business. He holds a D.B.A. from Southern Illinois University, an M.S. in Accountancy from DePaul University, and a B.A. in Chemistry from Illinois Wesleyan University.

His research interests focus on taxpayer rights, litigation, flow-through entities, tax policy, and corporate tax equity. Notable work includes analyses of IRS administrative fairness, unauthorized data disclosures, and the impact of tax reform acts. He also explores broader topics like board independence, savings behavior under SOX, and presidential influence on global markets.

Teaching emphasizes taxation and accounting principles. His publications span journals like Oil, Gas, and Energy Quarterly, Seton Hall Law Review, and Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal. Outside academia, he enjoys baseball, cooking, and movies.
