Rodolfo Ortiz is a Sessional Lecturer of Spanish at the University of British Columbia, affiliated with the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies within the Faculty of Arts. He holds a PhD in Hispanic Studies from UBC (2022), an MA in Arts and Latin American Literature from the University of Pittsburgh (2015), and another MA in Latin American Literature from Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, Bolivia (with a focus on Jaime Saenz's work). His academic journey also includes a 1993 Bachelor's in Psychoanalysis and a 2006 degree in Literature.

His research interests span 20th/21st-century Latin American Studies, Modernist Studies, Translation Studies, and the intersection of archives with technology. Notably, he has directed the literary magazine La Mariposa Mundial since 1999, publishing 28 issues and co-founding an associated publishing house. In 2017, he won a national research award for social sciences in Bolivia.
Ortiz's work often examines marginalized literary figures and avant-garde movements in the Andean region. His 2023 book Nudos y enredos analyzes early 20th-century Andean literary magazines, while earlier research focused on Jaime Saenz and literary translation. His critical editions of works by Arturo Borda, Gamaliel Churata, and others highlight his commitment to recovering overlooked texts.
Recent conference presentations include discussions on Bolivian literary magazines (Bandera Roja) at the 2023 Bolivian Studies Association Congress and analyses of transnational literary connections at LASA conferences. His interdisciplinary approach bridges literary history, cultural politics, and archival preservation.
