Rodney Hero is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. His research examines American democracy through the lenses of Latino Politics, Racial/Ethnic Politics, State & Urban Politics, and Federalism.
Professor Hero's scholarship focuses on political representation, social diversity, and democratic institutions. His influential work analyzes how racial and ethnic diversity shapes political processes and policy outcomes in the United States. Current projects investigate comparative racial politics and the dynamics of political incorporation.
His published books include Latinos and the U.S. Political System: Two-tiered Pluralism (winner of the APSA Ralph J. Bunche Award), Faces of Inequality: Social Diversity in American Politics (Woodrow Wilson Award), and Racial Diversity and Social Capital: Equality and Community in America.
