Rodney Day

Professor Rodney Day serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) at London South Bank University (LSBU), overseeing research, innovation, and enterprise activities including knowledge exchange and commercialization. Previously, he was Dean of the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire, managing interdisciplinary programs across aerospace, materials science, civil engineering, and physics.

Research focuses on fluid mechanics, sediment transport, and CFD applications. Recent work explores thermal management systems, mine refuge chambers, and urban wind turbine design. He contributed to national projects like GRADschools and the Researcher Development Framework implementation.

External roles include chairing a pan-London SME cluster, representing LSBU in SE1 Life Sciences Innovation District, and serving on London Higher Research and Civic Networks. Leadership roles include chairing LSBU’s Research and Innovation Committee and the Technician Commitment Group.

Awards include Chartered Engineer status and Fellowship in IET, ICE, and HEA. Grants and collaborations span KTP projects, EU initiatives, and industry partnerships in automotive, aerospace, and energy sectors.

His laboratories and teams specialize in hydraulics, computational fluid dynamics, and innovation ecosystems. Current work emphasizes bridging technical expertise with business innovation through LSBU’s strategic initiatives.
