Rodney Bowersox is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, holding concurrent roles as Deputy Director of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station and Senior Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering. He leads the National Aerothermochemistry and Hypersonics Laboratory (NAHL), established in 2004, and serves as Executive Director of the University Consortium for Applied Hypersonics. His academic rank also includes Regents Professor, and he holds the Ford Motor Co. Design Professorship I.
Education: Ph.D. (1992), M.S. (1990), and B.S. (1988) in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Research focuses on hypersonics, aerothermochemistry, and high-speed aerodynamics, with emphasis on non-equilibrium gas dynamics, numerical simulations, and experimental methods. His work involves advanced diagnostics, wind tunnel design, and propulsion systems. NAHL collaborates with agencies like AFOSR, AFRL, NASA, and industry partners (e.g., Lockheed Martin).
Awards include membership in the National Academy of Engineering. Grants and collaborations span defense, space, and industrial sectors. His lab fosters interdisciplinary training in aerospace engineering, chemistry, and physics. NAHL’s facilities include unique hypersonic testing assets and advanced laser diagnostics through the ALLEMO partnership.
