Dr. Roderick Salisbury is a prehistoric archaeologist affiliated with the Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. His research focuses on human-environmental interactions, landscape archaeology, and social organization during the European Neolithic, Copper, and Bronze Ages. He holds a PhD from the University at Buffalo (2010), followed by postdoctoral roles at the University of Leicester and positions at the Universities of Nottingham and Leicester. Since 2016, he has been involved in ERC-funded projects, including 'The Value of Mothers to Society.'
His expertise includes geoarchaeology, GIS-based spatial analysis, and archaeological soil chemistry. Notable outputs include his 2016 monograph on Neolithic soilscapes in the Great Hungarian Plain. His work bridges cultural ecology and historical ecology, emphasizing interdisciplinary methodologies.
Salisbury’s career includes a Marie Curie Fellowship at Airborne Technologies (2012) and contributions to excavations such as Aigeira Kleidi/Samikon and Ephesos. He collaborates within the 'Prehistoric Identities' research group, addressing questions of settlement patterns and spatial organization in ancient societies.
