Rod Fong is Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the Academic Support Program at USF School of Law. His work focuses on reducing stereotype threat and improving bar exam outcomes through targeted interventions for law students from underrepresented groups.
Research examines how stereotype threat impacts standardized testing performance among minority law students. Developed evidence-based strategies including growth mindset training, identity reframing, and intensive practice protocols that improved bar passage rates by 7 percentage points at previous institutions.
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating academic support for first through third-year law students. Supervises graduate teaching assistants across 14+ lab sections annually. Research informs institutional practices around formative assessment, culturally responsive pedagogy, and academic resilience in legal education.
