Rocky Penate is an Associate Professor in the Department of French at the University of Waterloo, specializing in teaching French language and literature. He earned a B.Ed. in French as a Second Language Teaching from Brock University (2014), a Ph.D. in French Studies from the University of Toronto (2011), and a B.A. in French Studies from the University of Western Ontario (2002).

His research and teaching interests span French language instruction for beginners and intermediate learners, content-based pedagogy, and 19th/20th-century French literature, particularly through the lens of animal studies.
Recent projects include co-organizing the Centre d'aide à la rédaction (CAR), a peer-tutoring service for writing skills, and co-investigating the LITE-funded Open online interactive workbook for intermediate students of French as a second language.
