Rocio Diaz-Chavez

Dr. Rocio Diaz-Chavez is a Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London's Centre for Environmental Policy (Faculty of Natural Sciences). She has been affiliated with the institution since 2004 and has held leadership roles, including Deputy Director at the Stockholm Environment Institute Africa Centre (2017–2022). Her work focuses on sustainability assessment, bioeconomy deployment, land-use management, and climate change impacts across Africa, Europe, and Latin America.

Key research interests include renewable energy integration, sustainable development goals (SDGs), and the socio-economic dimensions of bioenergy. She has coordinated EU-funded projects like COMPETE, Biocore, and COSMOS, and contributed to global initiatives such as ISO bioenergy standards and the Round Table on Sustainable Biomaterials. Her expertise spans policy development, gender equity in transport, and circular economy strategies.

She received the 2010 SCOPE Young Scientist Award for her work on bioenergy indicators and standards. Her recent publications analyze bioeconomy governance, climate adaptation in Africa, and sustainable practices in agriculture and transport sectors.
