Rocco Zito

Rocco Zito serves as Professor and Head of Engineering at Flinders University's College of Science and Engineering, a leadership position held since August 2021 where he oversees research projects and teaching programs. Previously, he headed the Civil Engineering department at the same institution. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Honours, 1992) and PhD in Transport Systems Engineering (2002).

His research examines transportation systems through multiple lenses:

• Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and GPS applications
• Environmental impact assessment of transport policies
• Connected/autonomous vehicle technologies
• Sustainable fuels and transport decarbonization
• Transport modeling and infrastructure design

Publications demonstrate strong focus on sustainable mobility solutions, intelligent transport technologies, and emission reduction strategies, with recent work advancing vehicle-to-infrastructure systems.

Teaches undergraduate/postgraduate courses including Advanced Infrastructure Design and Infrastructure Systems Engineering. Supervised 10+ graduate students in transport research.
