Her research centers on the archaeology of daily life, particularly household practices and cuisine in the Andes and coastal Peru during the Late Intermediate Period. She explores how political changes, such as Chimú state expansion, affected rural families and domestic economies. Her fieldwork in the Jequetepeque Valley, especially at Ventanillas, examines multiethnic communities and identity in borderland regions.
Her publications include the book The Story of Food in the Human Past and the edited volume Ancient Households on the North Coast of Peru. Her recent articles reflect a blend of scholarly and public engagement, covering topics such as bread baking during the pandemic and the cultural appeal of farming in video games. These works highlight her ability to connect archaeological insights with contemporary human experiences.
- Centre Scholar (2013)
- Presidential Award for Excellence (2021)
She actively mentors undergraduate research and leads study abroad courses in Peru, fostering hands-on learning and student engagement. Her editorial role with Ñawpa Pacha underscores her leadership in Andean studies. Though no specific grants are listed, her sustained fieldwork and publications indicate robust research support.
