Shippensburg University of Pennsylvaniaمعرفی
Dr. Robin McCann is a Professor of Biochemistry at Shippensburg University's Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry within the College of Arts & Sciences. His research spans molecular mechanisms of disease, analytical biochemistry, and forensic science. He collaborates with the Cumberland County Forensic Laboratory and studies ecological adaptations in organisms like the Eastern Newt's tetrodotoxin production.
Education: Earned his PhD in Biochemistry from Penn State College of Medicine after a career shift from biomedical research to academia. His postdoctoral work focused on Diabetic Retinopathy mechanisms.
Research Interests:
- Mechanisms of Diabetic Retinopathy via MAPK signaling pathways
- Quantitative analysis of TTX in Eastern Newts across life stages
- Forensic protocols for bullet casing fingerprint development
Publications focus on forensic toxicology methods (e.g., EMIT assays, GC/MS protocols) and biochemical mechanisms. Over 30 undergraduate research students have collaborated with him since 2005. Awards: None explicitly listed.
Teaching and Advising: Mentors students in interdisciplinary projects combining biochemistry with forensic science. Active in STEM education equity initiatives, co-authoring articles on unconscious bias in academia.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Cumberland County Forensic Lab on latent print development and SU Biology Department on newt toxin research.
