Robin Aasegg Araya is a Doctoral Research Fellow and PhD candidate at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo. Since 2023, she has been engaged in the SCREP-yard project focusing on the evolution and molecular basis of multivalent peptides in spider venoms.
She holds a Master of Science degree from CEES, University of Oslo, where her thesis investigated the impact of repetitive DNA on structural variations in the Atlantic cod genome.
Her primary research interests include Evolution, Genomics, Venomics, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Genetics, and Molecular Evolution. Her doctoral work centers on the evolution of peptides in spider venoms, examining genomic mechanisms and structure-function constraints of multivalent peptides. This research bridges molecular biology, evolutionary theory, and genomics.
Although her main focus is venom evolution, she has also contributed to interdisciplinary research, as seen in her 2023 publication on pregnancy experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. This work, published in Pharmacoepidemiology, highlights her ability to engage with diverse scientific questions across public health and epidemiology.
Robin serves as a teaching assistant for multiple courses including BIOS1100 (Introduction to computational models for Biosciences), BIOS1140 (Evolutionary Genetics), BIOS3100/4100 (Evolution), and BIOS-IN5410 (Bioinformatics for Molecular Biology). Her research is supported by the SCREP-yard project, and she is an active member of the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis, which fosters collaborative research in ecology and evolution.
