Roberto Domeniconi serves as a lecturer at the Institute for Jazz and Folk Music within Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Kriens, Switzerland, teaching Piano Jazz minor courses and Jazz ensemble courses. His institutional affiliation spans both the university's music division and its specialized jazz/folk institute.
His educational foundation includes studies with Vreni Schär for initial training, Irène Schweizer in free improvisation, Ed Tomassi in jazz improvisation, Herb Pomeroy in jazz composition and arranging, Earl Dean and Ray Santisi in piano, and Tom Rhea in music synthesis. He completed his formal education with a degree in jazz composition from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
Domeniconi's artistic practice centers on jazz composition and improvisation across theater, film, television, and concert domains. His work emphasizes spontaneous creation within structured frameworks, demonstrated through decades of live performances and recordings. Collaborative exploration remains central to his methodology, bridging traditional jazz forms with contemporary experimental approaches.
He maintains active involvement in the Bazillus Archive project featuring 184 live recordings from 1971-2013, captured at the Bazillus ad hoc live club. These sessions, edited by Beat Kennel and mastered by Flo Götte with the Dobozi brothers, showcase his commitment to preserving improvisational jazz heritage through direct-stage multitrack recordings using Pro Tools.
