Dr. Robert Xavier Rodríguez is a Professor of Music at The University of Texas at Dallas, holding the Chair of Art and Aesthetic Studies. He joined the university in 1975 and founded the Musica Nova ensemble, which showcases advanced orchestral and chamber music performances. His compositions have been performed globally by institutions such as the New York City Opera, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
- Education: Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music from UT Austin; Doctorate in Musical Arts in Composition from USC.
Recognized as "one of the major American composers of his generation" by Texas Monthly, his work spans over 146 original compositions published by G. Schirmer Inc. His music blends lyrical themes, dramatic contrasts, and humor, earning critical acclaim from The Washington Post, Musical America, and Los Angeles Times. Rodríguez's recordings include more than 20 albums and a Grammy Award nomination in 1999.
His scholarly and artistic contributions are supported by numerous honors and grants, including five NEA grants, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and residencies at the Aaron Copland House. He remains actively engaged in commissioned compositions and community music initiatives.
