Robert Wegener serves as a Senior Scientist and Head of the "Energy Related Emissions" research group at Jülich Research Centre, within the Institute of Climate and Energy Systems (ICE), specifically the Troposphere department (ICE-3).
His research focuses on urban air quality through integrated measurement systems and high-resolution atmospheric modeling to understand city-scale processes. Wegener develops practical strategies for maintaining livable urban environments while tracking atmospheric composition changes driven by climate dynamics and evolving energy systems. His work ensures data quality for global observation networks that monitor trace substances in the troposphere.
Research interests include Atmospheric Science, Urban Air Quality, Climate Change impacts, Atmospheric Modeling, Emission Tracking systems, and Reactive Trace Substances analysis. His group's work bridges scientific understanding with actionable urban policy development.
As group leader, Wegener oversees research on energy-related emissions and their atmospheric impacts, with particular focus on how urban environments respond to changing energy infrastructure and consumption patterns. His work combines field measurements with sophisticated modeling approaches to provide comprehensive atmospheric assessments.
