University of California , Santa Barbara (UCSB)معرفی
Robert Warner is a Research Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), affiliated with the Marine Science Institute. His research focuses on Behavioral and Evolutionary Ecology, particularly the evolution of mating systems, life histories in coral reef fishes, and marine conservation biology. He investigates topics such as sexual selection, parental care, and gamete allocation in males, combining field experiments with dynamic modeling. His work also addresses recruitment dynamics in marine fishes, using otolith chemistry to trace larval dispersal and assess population connectivity.
Warner’s conservation research examines historical marine ecosystem degradation and the efficacy of marine reserves. He demonstrates how reserves enhance biomass and biodiversity, influencing exploited species positively. He collaborates with UCSB and NCEAS on reserve design and marine spatial planning. His field studies span locations like St. Croix, Hawaii, and the Galapagos Islands, emphasizing experimental approaches to ecological questions.
His articles highlight themes like larval dispersal mechanisms, parasite dynamics in marine systems, and the ecological impacts of human activity. While not currently accepting graduate students, he advises through collaborative projects with EEMB colleagues. His research integrates behavioral, ecological, and conservation science to address global marine challenges.
