Robert Warburton

Robert Warburton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Case School of Engineering, Case Western Reserve University. His research develops computational models of interfacial chemical reactions for applications in catalysis and energy storage.

Warburton's research spans catalysis, energy storage, computational modeling, electrochemistry, and surface science. His work employs theoretical calculations to analyze interfacial structure and reactivity, with emphasis on heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis of CO2, and proton-coupled electron transfer processes. Current projects investigate electric field effects on electrochemical interfaces and catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons.

Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a strong focus on energy-related catalytic processes, including hydrogen atom transfer kinetics, propane-to-propylene oxide conversion, and integrated CO2 capture/conversion systems. His work frequently involves collaborations with Argonne National Laboratory, UCLA, and other institutions, demonstrating interdisciplinary approaches to energy storage and catalytic challenges.

Warburton leads the Warburton Lab, mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers. Current advisees include PhD candidate Noah South (recipient of the Kokes Award) and undergraduate Carlos (SOURCE-STEM awardee). His students actively present research at major conferences including the NAM29 Meeting.

The Warburton Lab maintains active collaborations with national laboratories and employs computational methods to address fundamental questions in interfacial reactivity. Current projects examine hydrogen transfer mechanisms, electrocatalytic CO2 reduction, and electric field effects on electrode interfaces, with implications for sustainable energy technologies.
