Robert W. Jordan serves as Diplomat-in-Residence and Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Southern Methodist University’s John G. Tower Center for Public Policy and International Affairs. A former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (2001–2003), he played a pivotal role in maintaining U.S.-Saudi relations post-9/11, fostering economic reforms, and advocating human rights. He retired from Baker Botts LLP in 2014 after leading its Middle East practice.
Education: J.D., University of Oklahoma College of Law; M.A., Government and Politics (University of Maryland); A.B., Political Science (Duke University).
Research focuses on Middle East diplomacy, counterterrorism, and international economic policy. His memoir Desert Diplomat (2015) details his ambassadorship. He frequently comments on geopolitical issues via CNN, Fox News, and the New York Times.
Honors include Texas Super Lawyer (2006–2010) and recognition in Best Lawyers in America. He chairs the Tower Center Board and Middle East Institute, and advises on U.S.-Arab commerce. Key speeches address Middle East peace efforts and geopolitical realities.
