Robert W. Vishny is the Myron S. Scholes Distinguished Service Professor of Finance and Neubauer Faculty Director of the Harry L. Davis Center for Leadership at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He holds a B.A. with highest distinction in economics, mathematics, and philosophy from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Vishny specializes in behavioral and institutional finance, corporate governance, political economy, and law and finance. His research examines the interplay between legal systems and financial markets, behavioral aspects of investor decisions, privatization mechanisms, and corporate control structures. He pioneered influential work on the limits of arbitrage, shareholder activism, and the role of legal institutions in economic development.
His extensive publication record in top journals like Journal of Political Economy and Journal of Finance includes seminal papers such as "Law and Finance" and "The Limits of Arbitrage," which transformed scholarship on institutional determinants of financial development. His research demonstrates consistent focus on how institutional frameworks shape market outcomes and corporate behavior across global contexts.

Vishny co-founded LSV Asset Management and has held significant leadership roles including Program Director for Corporate Finance at the National Bureau of Economic Research, Trustee of TIAA-CREF, and Director of the American Finance Association. His advisory work includes serving as Advisor to the Russian Privatization Ministry during economic transition periods. Vishny directs the Harry L. Davis Center for Leadership, focusing on leadership development within the Booth ecosystem.
