Robert Shrock is a Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University, affiliated with the C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics. He earned an A.B. summa cum laude from Harvard (1971) and a Ph.D. in physics from Princeton (1975). His research focuses on particle physics, quantum field theory, neutrino physics, and statistical mechanics.
Shrock’s key contributions include foundational work on unified electroweak theories, neutrino mass/mixing tests, and renormalization-group studies. He pioneered methods to detect heavy neutrinos and contributed to DUNE experiment planning. Awards include APS Fellowship (1994), SUNY Chancellor’s Award (2015), and Distinguished Professorship (2022).
His advising spans numerous Ph.D. students and postdocs, emphasizing theoretical exploration and experimental collaboration. Current research includes dark matter models, lattice field theory, and Potts model extensions. Collaborations involve global experiments like DUNE, ProtoDUNE, and PIONEER.
