Dr. Robert Sheldon is a Professor of Cardiac Sciences, Medicine, and Medical Genetics at the University of Calgary and cardiac electrophysiologist at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. He earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Colorado and an M.D. from the University of Toronto. His research focuses on cardiovascular autonomic disorders, particularly syncope management and the placebo effect in cardiology.
Sheldon co-authored the 2017 ACC/AHA/HRS Guideline for Syncope Management and has published influential studies on vasovagal syncope recurrence patterns and genetic factors. His honors include Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2008), the Canadian Cardiovascular Annual Achievement Award (2016), and the Arrhythmia Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award (2018).
Beyond research, Sheldon served as Senior Vice President of Research for Alberta Health Services and Associate Dean of Clinical Research at the University of Calgary. He contributed to health policy through nine years on the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Governing Council.
