Robert Scheller is a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University's College of Natural Resources. His research focuses on forest ecology, climate change impacts on ecosystems, landscape modeling, and disturbance dynamics including fire and drought.
Research Interests:
Dr. Scheller investigates how climate change affects forest carbon dynamics, fire regimes, and species distributions, using spatially explicit models like LANDIS-II. His work addresses adaptive management strategies for maintaining forest resilience and ecosystem services.
Recent Publications (2022-2025):
• Forest demographic changes across Texas associated with hot drought (2025)
• Fire regimes of the Southern Appalachians may radically shift under climate change (2024)
• Balancing multiple forest management objectives under climate change (2023)
• Carbon stored in ponderosa pines post-drought analysis (2023)
Grants:
• $281,843 USDA Forest Service grant (2021-2025) for ecological drought indices
• $470,000 USDA NIFA grant (2019-2025) on Appalachian oak regeneration
• $124,765 USGS grant (2022-2024) for bird habitat modeling
• $556,250 GRIP4PSI grant (2020-2024) on plant disease monitoring platforms
