Robert Phiddian is a Professor of English at Flinders University, specializing in political satire, Australian political cartoons, and the cultural value of humor. He currently holds roles as Research Integrity Adviser and Discipline Leader in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Previously, he served as Deputy Dean and Research Centre Director in the School of Humanities.
His research focuses on satire’s role in public discourse, including projects like the ARC Discovery Grant-funded 'Cartoon Nation: Australian Editorial Cartooning - Past, Present, and Future' (2023-2026). He has authored works such as *Satire and the Public Emotions* (2020) and co-authored *What Matters?: Talking Value in Australian Culture* (2018).
Phiddian is a former Chair of the Adelaide Festival of Ideas and Foundation Director of the Australasian Consortium of Humanities Research Centres (ACHRC). His awards include the Ross Steele Fellowship (2021-22) and the Charles J. Cole Fellowship (2023).
