Robert Paknys is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Concordia University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), part of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ENCS). He holds a Ph.D. from Ohio State University and has over 35 years of academic and research experience. His career includes roles as Assistant Professor (1989-1995), Associate Professor (1995-2005), and Professor (2005-2021) at Concordia. He is recognized for contributions to electromagnetics, antennas, and radar cross section analysis.
Education: B.Eng. (McGill University, 1979), M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Ohio State University, 1982 and 1985). He has held visiting professorships at the University of Auckland (1996), University of Houston (2004), and École Polytechnique (2010). His research focuses on electromagnetic theory, including geometrical optics, guided waves, and antenna systems. He authored Applied Frequency-Domain Electromagnetics (Wiley/IEEE Press, 2016) and developed labs for microwave and antenna courses at Concordia.
Key activities include electromagnetic analysis of naval ships with Infield Scientific, Inc., and leadership roles in the ECE department (Undergraduate Program Director, Department Chair). He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a member of CNC-URSI Commission B, and a licensed amateur radio operator (VE3KBP). His work addresses practical challenges in electromagnetic compatibility, antenna design, and high-frequency scattering.
