Robert Nachtrieb is a Senior Lecturer in System Dynamics at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he co-teaches the System Dynamics II Elective for EMBAs and Sloan Fellows. Concurrently, he serves as the lead scientist at Lutron Electronics, a global leader in lighting controls, and has driven the development of international standards for LED dimming, fluorescent dimming, controlgear inrush, and controls compatibility during his decade-long tenure.
He holds leadership roles on multiple advisory boards, including chairing the Industrial Advisory Board of the US-China Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) Consortium for Building Energy Efficiency, leading the Lighting Controls section of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), and representing the U.S. at the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) Controlgear Subcommittee. Nachtrieb also advises BrightBytes, an educational technology innovator in San Francisco.
A recipient of the IEC 1906 Award (2013), he has contributed to premier industry conferences, peer-reviewed journals in lighting research, and holds several U.S. patents. His academic background includes a BS in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois, an ScD in applied plasma physics from MIT, and an MBA from MIT’s inaugural EMBA cohort.
