Robert Moore

Robert Moore is a Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Macromolecules Innovation Institute at Virginia Tech. His research focuses on polymer chemistry, material science, and energy materials, with emphasis on functionalization of polymers, ion-containing materials, and advanced composites.

Education:

• B.S. Chemistry, Angelo State University, 1983

• Postdoctoral Fellow, McGill University, Polymer Physical Chemistry, 1989–1990

Research Interests:

His work includes nanoscale characterization of ion-containing polymers, thermo-reversible gels, and controlled morphology in PEM fuel cells. He explores polymer-based nanocomposites, twin-screw extrusion, and novel synthetic methods for advanced materials.

• Fellow of the American Chemical Society (2013)
• Distinguished Service Award (ACS Polymer Division, 2012)

Grants & Leadership:

He led the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS) as Associate Director for Research (2010–2015). Current roles include Director of the MACR Graduate Program and Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Mississippi. His lab develops novel materials for energy, sustainability, and additive manufacturing.

Labs & Teams:

The Moore Research Group operates in Hahn Hall South and Davidson Hall, Blacksburg, VA. Research areas include ionic polymer membranes, aerogel fabrication, and supramolecular networks.
