معرفی
Professor Robert Medcalf is a Professor (Research) at Monash University's Australian Centre for Blood Diseases and School of Translational Medicine. He is a leading expert in fibrinolysis, focusing on enhancing stroke treatment through natural clot-busting mechanisms like tissue plasminogen activator (TPA). His work addresses extending TPA's therapeutic window and exploring its roles in neuroplasticity, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis. He collaborates internationally and contributes to clinical research through projects like the TRIGS-D trial and FOMO study.
Teaching: Prof Medcalf designed and coordinates the Fibrinolysis and Stroke module in Monash's Master of Clinical Research program, delivering lectures on fibrinolysis and translational hematology. His contributions ensure graduate-level education aligns with clinical outcomes.
Research Focus:
- TPA's extended use in stroke beyond the 4.5-hour window
- Vampire bat-derived TPA variants for reduced brain damage
- Fibrinolytic system dynamics in ECMO patients and post-COVID-19
- Tranexamic acid efficacy in trauma and surgery
Grants & Collaborations: Over 47 projects since 2000, including leadership roles in generic Tenecteplase evaluation and cross-institutional work on fibrinolysis in trauma and stroke.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Fibrinolysis research group at Monash, focusing on translational studies bridging basic science and clinical applications.
