Dr. Robert McKenzie is a Research Fellow in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of the Free State. His work focuses on the systematics, phylogenetic relationships, and ecological adaptability of Southern African Asteraceae taxa under anthropogenic and environmental pressures.
- Current projects include taxonomic revisions of subtribes Arctotidinae and Gorteriinae (genera Arctotis, Berkheya, Gazania)
- Investigates phylogenetic relationships in Cape-endemic genus Heterolepis
- Combines morphological, genetic, field, and herbarium-based methodologies
Prior editorial roles included publishing editor for five scientific journals, including African Journal of Range and Forage Science and Ostrich: Journal of African Ornithology. Currently serves as an independent scientific and English language editor specializing in plant sciences.
