Robert M. McMeeking

Robert M. McMeeking holds dual appointments as the Evans Professor of Structural Materials in the Department of Materials and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). His research focuses on the mechanics of advanced materials, combining theoretical and computational approaches to address challenges in structural and functional material performance.

He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from Brown University and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow. His work spans structural materials, lithium-ion batteries, biological cell mechanics, and high-performance ceramics, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary applications.

Key research areas include the mechanics of solid-state batteries, fracture and failure mechanisms in advanced materials, and bioinspired materials design. His publications reflect a focus on energy storage systems, biomaterials, and computational modeling of material behavior.

McMeeking has been honored as a Member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE).
