Robert M. Swift is a Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University. He holds roles as Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health and Acting Associate Chief of Staff for Education at the Providence VA Medical Center. Dr. Swift earned dual B.A., M.D., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago, followed by a psychiatry residency at Yale University. Board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry, his research focuses on pharmacological treatments for alcohol and drug dependence, with emphasis on clinical trials and mechanistic studies of medications like naltrexone, topiramate, and novel agents such as GET 73. He has led major NIH-funded studies including the COMBINE trial evaluating combined psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy for alcohol dependence.
