Robert Loughridge serves as an Instructor in the Program of Dance and Movement at the University of Rochester, a position he has held since 2001. He specializes in teaching T'ai Chi and Qi Gong courses that bridge martial arts with artistic disciplines.
His academic credentials include a B.A. in English from Alfred University and an M.A. in English from SUNY Brockport. Professional development encompasses advanced martial arts training and dance workshops.
Loughridge's scholarly focus centers on the "Scholar Warrior" philosophy, examining how mastery emerges through synthesizing brush painting, calligraphy, poetry, music, philosophy, martial arts, sport, and dance. With over 35 years of martial arts practice—including advanced black belts in Isshin Ryu Karate and Tae Kwon Do—and study under renowned practitioners like Dr. Chunlei Lu, Chen Xiaoxing, and Yang Yang, his work demonstrates deep integration of physical discipline and cultural expression. He further enriches his practice through master classes with dance innovators including Simone Forti and Bill Evans.
