Robert Lecker is the Greenshields Professor of English at McGill University, affiliated with the Department of English within the Faculty of Arts. His expertise spans Canadian literature, book history, and literary canon formation. He holds a Ph.D. from York University and has been a pivotal figure in Canadian literary scholarship for decades.
Lecker’s research focuses on Canadian literary history, ekphrasis, life writing, and material production. He co-edited Essays on Canadian Writing (1975-2004) and co-published at ECW Press (1977-2003). His books include Dr. Delicious: Memoirs of a Life in CanLit and Keepers of the Code: English-Canadian Literary Anthologies and the Representation of the Nation.
His recent projects include studies of Karen Solie’s poetry and music in Michael Ondaatje’s fiction. Awards include the Lorne Pierce Medal (2022) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He has received SSHRC grants for research and teaching, reflecting his sustained academic contributions.
Lecker teaches and supervises students in Canadian poetry, fiction, and literary history. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary cultural critique, emphasizing communal literary practices and publishing dynamics.
