Robert Landers is the Associate Faculty Director of iNDustry Labs and a Collegiate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame's College of Engineering. His research focuses on advanced manufacturing processes, including laser powder bed fusion, digital glass forming, and control systems for alternative energy systems. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, an M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University, and a B.S. from the University of Oklahoma.
Landers' research interests include thermal modeling of additive manufacturing processes, in-situ monitoring techniques for quality control, and energy systems optimization for hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries. His work bridges mechanical engineering with mechatronics, emphasizing precision control in industrial robotics and machine tools.
His recent publications emphasize defect prediction in additive manufacturing, kinematic error compensation in robotics, and novel methods for glass-metal integration.
