Robert Krauthgamer

Robert Krauthgamer is a Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, holding The Harry Weinrebe Professorial Chair of Computer Science. He serves as Department Head of the Department of Computer Science & Applied Mathematics within the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. He received his PhD from the Weizmann Institute in 2001 and returned to Weizmann as a faculty member in 2007.

Professor Krauthgamer's research primarily focuses on Analysis of Algorithms, with specific expertise in Data Analysis and Massive Data Sets, Combinatorial Optimization, Approximation Algorithms, Hardness of Approximation, Average-case Analysis, Heuristics, Embeddings of Finite Metrics, Routing and Peer to Peer networks. He also maintains broad interests in Discrete Mathematics and High-Dimensional Geometry. His work has led to the organization of numerous specialized workshops including multiple Sublinear Algorithms conferences at Bertinoro and Weizmann-Warwick meetings.

As Editor-in-Chief of SIAM Journal on Computing (2019-2025) and former Managing Editor of Theory of Computing (2007-2018), he has significantly shaped the theoretical computer science publication landscape. His service extends to program committees of major conferences including STOC, FOCS, and SODA (where he served as PC chair in 2016), and steering committees for SODA, ESA, and HALG conferences.

Professor Krauthgamer has supervised numerous graduate students, with a consistent record of mentoring both MSc and PhD candidates whose thesis work spans algorithmic challenges in graph theory, data streams, metric embeddings, and computational geometry. His teaching portfolio prominently features courses on Randomized Algorithms and Sublinear Time and Space Algorithms, which he has taught regularly since 2008.
