Robert Keith Collins

Robert Keith Collins is an Associate Professor of American Indian Studies at San Francisco State University since Fall 2006. He holds a BA in Anthropology and Native American Studies from UC Berkeley, and an MA/PhD in Anthropology from UCLA. His research focuses on African-Native American interactions across the Americas and cultural changes in Indigenous communities. He co-curated the Smithsonian's 'IndiVisible' exhibit and has authored multiple edited volumes.

His research employs person-centered ethnography to explore transcontinental Indigenous-African connections. Recent work emphasizes colonial disease impacts and educational equity for Native students. He has published extensively through Routledge, Cognella Press, and UCLA's American Indian Culture and Research Journal.

Dr. Collins' current projects include a forthcoming volume on colonial diseases' effects on Native populations. His work bridges anthropology, history, and education to address systemic challenges facing Indigenous communities.
