Robert Jansen is a Lecturer/Researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and External PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Law's Criminal Law program. He holds a Master's in Criminal Law (cum laude) from the University of Groningen (2012) and has worked as a junior researcher, lecturer, and legal intern at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. His research focuses on normative frameworks for criminal defenses involving prior fault (actio libera in causa), including self-defense, insanity, and medical confidentiality. Since 2023, he serves as Senior Policy Advisor on Police Violence at the Dutch Ministry of Justice.
