He joined FSU in 2002 after teaching at Washington State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Indiana University (1994) and a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Evansville.
His research focuses on political participation, voting behavior, U.S. elections, and American politics. Key areas include generational shifts in political ideology, electoral mobilization, campaign advertising impacts, and Latino political engagement. His work often employs methodological rigor to analyze survey data and electoral dynamics.
Recent publications explore generational attitudes on abortion, the influence of parenthood on political engagement, and critiques of partial observability models in political science research. His earlier work examined negative campaign advertising in Senate elections and dual nationality’s impact on political connectedness among Latinos.
Dr. Jackson’s research emphasizes empirical analysis of voter behavior and electoral systems, contributing to debates on civic engagement, electoral fairness, and the evolving American political landscape. He is based in Bellamy Hall and can be reached at rjackson@fsu.edu.
