Robert J. McCann is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Mathematics, Economics and Physics at the University of Toronto's Department of Mathematics. His office is located in the Bahen Centre at 40 St George St, Toronto.
Research Interests: Professor McCann's work spans mathematical physics, mathematical economics, convex analysis, geometry, optimization, and partial differential equations, with significant contributions to optimal transport theory.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC)
- Canada Research Chair in Mathematics, Economics and Physics
Teaching: Current courses include MAT 1855HF (Mathematical Problems in Economics) and APM 426 / MAT 1700H1S (General Relativity). Previously taught MAT 1502HS (Optimal Transport, Geometry and Dynamics).
Student Advising: Supervises PhD and MSc candidates, with numerous alumni in academia and industry. Current research group includes 5 PhD candidates and 2 postdoctoral researchers.
Professional Activities: Organizes conferences and seminars including the Fields Colloquium on Applied Mathematics and thematic semesters at the Fields Institute.
