Robert J. Maiden is a Professor of Psychology & Communication at Alfred University's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. He joined the faculty in 1982 and serves as Director of the Gerontology BA program.
- Education: BA in English Literature (University of Michigan, 1969), PhD in Clinical Psychology (New School for Social Research, 1980)
Dr. Maiden specializes in Gerontology, focusing on rural aging, public policy, community mental health, and intergenerational counseling. His work explores personality differences, retirement well-being, and service-learning pedagogy. He maintains a part-time clinical practice addressing geriatric, family, and substance abuse issues.
As a prolific presenter, he has delivered over 100 papers at national/international conferences, frequently collaborating with students. His publications include book chapters on grandparents rearing grandchildren and a co-authored book about rural aging.
