Dr. Robert Douglas Ferguson is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University College Dublin (UCD), affiliated with the School of Information and Communication Studies and the SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics. His research focuses on personal information management, human-data interactions, and ethical challenges in digital caregiving. Ferguson holds a PhD in Information Studies from McGill University (2023) and degrees in Social Anthropology from York University (MA 2012, BA 2009).
Research: His current project, the Dementia Data Reciprocity Project (DDRP), addresses ethical and technological challenges in dementia caregiving. Previous work includes studies on personal financial information management among young adults and hospice communication technologies. He has published in top journals like Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology and conferences such as ACM CSCW.
Teaching: Ferguson coordinates undergraduate modules on personal information management and lectures on digital curation at UCD. He has extensive teaching experience from McGill University, including courses on information ethics and grant writing.
Awards: Notable recognitions include the Best Paper Award at ACM CSCW 2014 and multiple travel and excellence awards from McGill and York Universities.
Future Work: Expands on DDRP’s aims to reduce recordkeeping burdens for dementia caregivers and explore ethical data donation frameworks.
