Robert Craig is a Professor of Sculpture at the Department of Art & Design, Drake University, located within the College of Arts & Sciences. He holds an M.F.A. from Florida State University and a B.A. from Eastern Illinois University. Craig's work explores the intersection of metal's inherent qualities and industrial history, often incorporating objects from domestic and industrial contexts to reflect on manual craftsmanship and technological evolution.
His sculptures have been exhibited nationally in museums, universities, and sculpture parks, including the '9th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition' at Washburn University (2005) and installations in Boston Harbor Shipyard and Cedar Falls, Iowa. Notable works include fiddler, allure, and the Prairie View 2 series. Craig's practice integrates drawing and model-building to refine sculptural concepts, emphasizing color as a narrative element.
He teaches a Blacksmithing J-Term course and contributes to HarborArts initiatives. His research bridges material exploration with historical context, focusing on artifacts from the industrial age and their functional relationships.
