Robert Charles Capistrano is an Assistant Professor at Hainan University’s Arizona State University International College (HAIC), School of Community Resources & Development (CRD). He also holds affiliations with Hainan University/ASU Joint International Tourism College (HAITC) and is a Senior Global Futures Scholar. His interdisciplinary work bridges tourism, environment, gender studies, and community development.
Education includes a PhD in Tourism Management from Victoria University of Wellington, a Master of Marine Management from Dalhousie University, and degrees from Philippine institutions. His research focuses on VFR travel, family tourism, halal tourism, and community-based coastal resource management. He has published extensively on topics like marine protected areas, indigenous rights, and sustainable tourism.
His 15 most recent articles (2025-2010) reflect trends in sustainable tourism strategies, cultural and religious tourism dynamics, and transnational family interactions.
