Robert Chapman is Lecturer in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London. His research examines public understanding of genetics with emphasis on educational, ethical, and social implications. Chapman investigates how genetic knowledge is communicated through media and education systems, and how this shapes perceptions across different professional groups including educators, legal professionals, and policymakers.
His work addresses genetic literacy disparities and develops strategies to improve science communication in areas such as forensic genetics, health testing, and educational applications. Chapman co-founded the Accessible Genetics Consortium to promote effective dialogue between scientists and the public. He has conducted international surveys assessing genetic knowledge across diverse populations.
Current projects examine judicial understanding of genetic evidence, attitudes toward genetic testing, and perceptions of genetic research in educational contexts. Chapman's research informs policy discussions on ethical implementation of genomic technologies in society.
