Robert Cerrato is a Professor at the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University. His research focuses on quantitative field ecology, examining patterns and drivers of marine populations and communities across spatial and temporal scales. He has contributed to understanding ecosystem responses to environmental stressors such as climate change, habitat alteration, and overfishing.
His research integrates field and laboratory work with advanced techniques including fine-scale acoustic telemetry, stable isotope analysis, state-space modeling, and LASSO regularization to assess species vulnerability and trophic dynamics. Recent work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborations with fisheries ecologists, geologists, and physiologists.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals trends in marine climate change impacts, benthic community dynamics, and trophic structure modeling. Key subfields include ocean acidification effects, larval dispersal, anthropogenic disturbance, and meta-analytical approaches in marine research.
